Harold Frederic reply to J.B. and J.L. Gilder, 1896.

Joseph B. Gilder and Jeannette L. Gilder, editors of the literary weekly, The Critic, write to Harold Frederic in London, 28 April 1896, inquiring about how he will spend the summer. On the verso he replies on 13 May 1896 that he will be "at my treadmill of breadwinning newspaper work" and whatever leisure time will be spent writing a novel, his "first attempt to deal in fiction with exclusively English people and subjects."
